Since 1997, Kiddleydivey has been helping the elderly supporting their continued mobility, their social interaction, their connection with memory and the quality of life through specially devised programmes of music, songs and activity.
Sessions involve singing, moving to the music, recognising photographs of stars from a bygone era, playing percussion instruments and using props such as poms poms, scarves, hats and hoops meaning that the elderly residents engage, interact and socialise even when their communication is very limited.
Kiddleydivey consistently research and develop its many musical themed activities and sessions and all the music sets have been created by a music therapist and doctor of musicology. Specially edited songs help to encourage participation.
Hello, my name is Jan. After an enjoyable career in teaching, I recently
decided to make a career change.
My Dad spent his last few months in a care home suffering from dementia. Music was a big part of our family life, so I decided I would like to spend my time sharing my passion for music with elderly and vulnerable adults.
Already, I have seen at first hand the powerful effect that music can have, with residents who have been asleep, waking up and starting to mouth lyrics to songs that they know. Seeing the enjoyment on the people's faces during the sessions gives me enormous pleasure.
